I received a grouchy letter from a Philhosting.net support rep today in response to the blog article I posted about their unsatisfactory handling of my account for six months. I’ll withhold the name of the rep/tech:
FYI, your domain result
Domain Name JENNYO.NET
THIS IS BASED ON OUR REGISTRAR RECORDRegistrar ONLINENIC, INC.
Whois Server whois.onlinenic.com
Referral URL http://www.OnlineNIC.com
Name Server NS1.WP-PINOY.COM
Name Server NS2.WP-PINOY.COM
Status clientTransferProhibited
Creation Date 30-jul-2008 (2008-2009)1yr - (2009-2010)1yr = 2 yr REGISTERED
Expiration Date 30-jul-2010And regarding your research, we are fond of that because more of new clients coming to us. That’s our company gain some clients. Please tell your IT guy to study more on Internet field before he give you some concrete result. You applied for SHARED HOSTING, and you demand like you have your own admin access. Much better if you apply an hosting account based on outside the country. Let’s see if you can get support without paying dollar. While local hosting company like us giving you FREE support.Anyway, thank you for hosting with us…and goodluck to your new SHARED hosting company. Account is successfully terminated
Regards,
What that entire first part was about, I don’t know. I am not an IT guy. I am a newspaper writer and broadcaster. That’s why I have an IT guy. What I do is the content.
Second, if what it means is about the two-year registration, I have my emails and their emails showing, first, that the “purchase” of two years’ registration was “successful”, and when I asked them why my IT guy said we were registered for only one year, they gave a vague answer and later followed up with “jennyo.net successfully renewed”. “Renewed”. That’s the iffy word there.
Now, what does this mean? “You applied for SHARED HOSTING, and you demand like you have your own admin access. Much better if you apply an hosting account based on outside the country. While local hosting company like us giving you FREE support.Let’s see if you can get support without paying dollar.”
Wow - such sarcasm.
I applied for service - continued uninterrupted service, not daily downtimes and downtimes of five days or more. Admin access- what’s that? Am I “demanding”? I’m a paying customer. Don’t I have the right to get what I paid for? Was I not entitled to uninterrupted service?
“Free support” - where’s the support if my site is frequently down?
And then, on top of it all, to be further treated like this in an email. These people have no idea on how to properly handle customers - especially irate and dissatisfied customers.
Contrast Philhosting’s handling of my situation with the way I was treated by Starbucks (see my earlier post on Starbucks being tops in customer care). Starbucks went the extra mile to make up for an inconvenience, whereas Philhosting lambasts me for being “demanding”. I’m the one who had to put up with downtimes, inconvenience, and lost readership, tapos sila pa galit.
Wait a minute. It was the tech/rep guy who wrote me. Who is the owner of Philhosting, and does he know what’s going on in his company, and how his tech people are treating customers?
At least the small customers like myself. Here’s a comment from someone calling himself “hades”:
im tracking this philhosting.net you say coz im writing some blog( negative or positive) also regarding this problem. I tried to whois your domain but result…
Domain Name:jennyo.net
Record last updated at 2009-01-28 21:43:46

Record expired on 2010/7/30Domain servers in listed order:
ns1.wp-pinoy.com ns2.wp-pinoy.comit will expired in 2010…am i correct? then that should be 2 years. i have read some blogs regarding philhosting and they’re really sucks in reviews. The question is, why? why more of big companies, goverment, locally and internationally hosted to them? Even www.pcgg.gov.ph and personal website of madamme president www.pcpo.ph is hosted to them…
any comment on this?
Hades, again, I am not an IT guy, so that first part, I don’t know what that means. I guess my IT guy knows.
Next, I have heard that Philhosting has big clients. From what I have researched on the Internet, it’s the small customers like myself who are having problems with Philhosting’s services. What does that sound like to you?
“The thing speaks for itself,” so a lawyer cousin of mine told me. No further comment.

They suck big time. I already encountered several other bloggers complaining about philhosting.net’s service. Hmmm… might as well write about my experiences with them.
There is no excuse for such lousy customer service. That email is so unprofessional that I can’t believe anyone would want to do business with them. I just got a hosting company here and I’m hoping that they never treat me like that! Glad you’re moving ahead now and leaving them behind.
this article is right,
i buy a domain name from them and host for P50 a month,
i didnt pay them for 1 year because i want to try their service whether its good or f@%ing damn stupid.
Service and support they give you is -10.
They told me they support joomla, but when i upload my website made in joomla, i encountered such a huge problem in my components, modules, etc.
dont host with this webhosting company.
they pissed you off
First thing is they really don’t have good technical support service. I know because its my job for almost 10 years now. They don’t give advisories if they have server problems which eventually causes your site down. It was very funny because when one of those many time that my site went down I went to their site and browse also their clients sites and I was shocked that most of them also went down same as mine. I called them and they answered to me I’m the only one who reported that my site went down. WTF! Ok i have no proof but how about when my site went back online my some of my database and site files were missing!
My theory is they backup my site let’s say 15th of a month and do their thing with the server after 2 weeks. Ok the server is up and they restored my site but WTF with an old files. Of course the span of that 2 weeks were gone. And when I called them their answer was, “I’ll ask the technical support and get back to you.” What my site went down for 2 weeks and almost an inch to being useless this is what I get?
Alright I cannot waste more time witht hem you’ll be the judge of that.
This is the first part of this blog entry above http://gogirlcafe.jennyo.net/?p=902
ayaw pa irefund? hello? meron pa akong 7 months na hindi pa nagagamit?? where the hell is my refund?
heto, gumamit na lang kayo ng VPS, mas mura pa and mas maganda. sa vpslink.com
I just transferred my sites from this rotten hosting company.
I am an IT guy. Here’s my piece of horror experience with them:
http://wilfredv.blogspot.com/2009/02/philhostingnet-worst-hosting-company.html
The owner is Ruel Mindoro, and he is also the tech guy AND he probably is the one who also sent that email. I know the guy. Mali-mali english grammar nun mapride and pikon. Walang solusyon sa ganyan attitude na yan. Wag na lang kau papaloko sa kanya ulit.
That Philhosting sucks!!! Or they don’t really care of small clients like me ? or like us? Kunsimisyon lang inabot ko sa mga yan. Paano kaya magandang gawin para maturuan ng leksyon yan?
Philhosting is a scam they should be investigated.
They should all go to jail for promising services that are not met.
Techsupports that doensot answer emails and phones.
Servers that are always down and has no backup.
IT techsupports that spend more time answering blogs like this rather than fixing their service.
DONT WAST YOUR TIME!
Dont ever subscribe to Philhosting.net you will regret it.
They have more down time than up times.
They accedentaly deleted my database and my project got backtracked for 2 months because they dont have backups. If you want your site to have backup they will ask you to upgrade your account to a better one with backup eventhou tis standard to have backups if your a hosting company.
Worst techsupport, doesnot answer email sent more than 4 emails when my site was down no one answers back, it will take them more than 3days to 1 week to answer.
Phone support sucks also.. Philhost keeps their phone on hang everytime they have server problems so that they wont have to answer clients calls. Ive experienced this more than 5 time in less than 6 months.
Philhost sucks … bigtime dont ever trust this hostin company.
Yeah.. PHILHOSTING.NET sucks!! ALMOST ALWAYS downtime!
still researching where to move my site. HATING PHILHOSTING.NET! haist…
I think Philhosting’s holding my domain transfer. I’ve been with them for more than 5-6 years and then now when I decided to transfer to a new domain host, they’ve been giving me wrong access passwords so I couldn’t transfer my website. wth?
@roan - if you’re planning to move your site, be careful. I’ve requested for a transfer code and all they’ve given me are wrong transfer codes.
here’s what my current host said - after my domain transfer got held twice:
Dear Reseller,
The Order for Transfer alongwith 1 year Renewal of aaronroselo.net through was denied by ONLINENIC, INC., the Current Registrar of this Domain Name since the current Owner of the Domain Name has some pending formalities with the Current Registrar. Please contact ONLINENIC, INC., the Current Registrar of this Domain Name to find out why they denied this Request.
Yup. Philhosting sucks bigtime. Horrible service. Here’s my own experience with them.
Anyway, Aaron. Don’t bother Philhosting with this. I went directly to ONLINE NIC (they’d entertain you as your registrar, Philhosting is their reseller) and they said that they are upgrading their services. No definite time period when it would be resolved. That’s why transfers are currently being rejected.
Alex, Aaron and Roan, that’s not true, you can transfer your domain to any registrar, not able to transfer your domain is a complete lie. They just deactivated the feature of your domain in which you can modify nameservers and create a transfer code. My company is a registrar too and we give our clients a total control over their domain. email me at sales@bayanwebhost.com for more details
We were able to transfer domains like chrislacsamana dot com acaramba dot net noelevz dot com etc because we specifically demand for it. You need to demand the following:
1. Unlock your domain
2. Give you a transfer code for your file or enable the feature so that you could generate yourself.
4. Intruct them to enable the feature in which you can modify nameservers
3. Set the domain administrator to your email address.
That’s it.
Then next time do not register to a registrar that cannot give you a total control over your domain. Domain registrar or holder must have the total control of their domain according to Hosting Code of Ethics. Sad to say, PHILHOSTING.NET does not follow what is in the Hosting Code of Ethics.
Hello,
If you have problems transferring your domain name, you should report this to ICANN the authority in domain disputes:
http://reports.internic.net/cgi/registrars/problem-report.cgi
@alex: thanks for that! online NIC actually answered my query very promptly and I’m glad that my account’s not going to be stolen or anything.
Given this, I still don’t like how Philhosting handled my situation - I kept on asking for the transfer password thinking that a mistake with the authorization code was the case, when it actually was about from the original name server host that had the problem. Should they have informed me about it, I wouldn’t have been pestering them multiple times asking for the same password that wouldn’t really work anyway because transfers are down.
Guess I’ll hold off my blogging for a while first then.
Dont ever subscribe to Philhosting.net you will regret it.

Sagot saken ng techsupport on the phone when somone finally answered the phones after 2 days calling, “sir relax lang kayo hindi lang naman kayo and naburahan nd website ehh madami kayo” WTF is that?? Is that proper tech support.
Worst techsupport, doesnot answer email sent more than 4 emails when my site was down no one answers back, it will take them more than 3days to 1 week to answer.

This is a good news for those customers of registrar OnlineNIC/ Philhosting.net who had problems with previous transfer requests should now be able to transfer their domains to a different registrar if they wish. Please see this article on ICANN (there is already a court ruling dated May 15, 2009) Please see the link below

Cheers to all
pahuhuli ba ako dito hahahaha. nabiktima rin ako ng P.I. scammer na kumpanyang ito.
http://www.normandb.com/2009/03/unreliable-philhostingnet.html
They deleted my account with them when they found out that I blogged about their scam. They didn’t even bother to give me a refund.
good thing i found this blog post, i’m currently in the process of moving my domain to a new one, web.com.ph, and from what i’ve read mukhang magkakaron ng hassle… sigh. crossing all my fingers. Thanks for all the info.
She teaches English punctuation with a Gothic touch!
June 30, 2009
Dear Fellow Communicators in English,
You must have thought that it was the British sports columnist Lynne Truss who started the big English punctuation rush with her best-selling Eats, Shoots & Leaves. I thought so, too, until I stumbled on The New Well-Tempered Sentence: A Punctuation Handbook for the Innocent, the Eager, and the Doomed by Karen Elizabeth Gordon, an American who used to teach English and a consummate grammarian with a Gothic touch. It turns out that Karen Gordon had come up with her delightfully instructive punctuation handbook 21 years before Lynne Truss did, and had actually released an expanded and illustrated edition of it in 2003—at least a year before Eats, Shoots & Leaves hit the London bookstores!
This is just one of the exciting and provocative features lined up this week by Jose Carillo’s English Forum for your enjoyment before, after, or in-between your English shoptalks inside the Forum. Look at the full story lineup to see what I mean:
THIS WEEK IN THE FORUM (June 27-July 3, 2009):
• Advice and Dissent: Who Really Started the Great English Punctuation Rush? (It’s an American former English teacher with a Gothic touch!)
• My Media English Watch: Grammatically, Semantically Troublesome Threesome (Front-page leads trip over commas, a wrong conjunction, and a misplaced modifier!)
• Essays by Jose Carillo: When Even the Passive Voice Isn’t Enough (Dare to cleave single-clause sentences for semantic emphasis!)
• Going Deeper into English: A Huge Treasure Trove of Great Short Stories (The very best from Miguel Cervantes to John Updike!)
• News and Commentary: Philippines Warned to Boost English Skills or Risk Ending Its Current BPO boom (But do we really need an Australian to tell us that?)
• Getting to Know English: Lesson #9 – Getting to Know the Prepositional Phrases (Some verbs and adjectives are so picky with their partner prepositions!)
• Time Out from English Grammar: Twixt Mathematics, Technology, and Ancient Religious Belief (Is mathematics a human invention or a cosmic—and possibly divine—order?)
I know that you couldn’t wait to read these stories, so come on over now without delay. See you at the Forum!
With my best wishes,
Joe Carillo
Philhosting is an incredibly incompetent company. Apparently the alleged owner “Ruel Mindoro” is also an obnoxious moron. I am surprised to learn that this company is currently hosting 3000 domains- of which 2900 are probably experiencing downtimes this very second. The public should be informed of this idiotically managed company.
Do I need to say more all else have been said. I hope Ruel Minodor reads this and yeah I hope he goes to hell with his hosting company as well. Been planning to sue them for massive data lost and scum but what’s the point better to transfer hosting and be done with them.
I occasionally check back at Philhosting to see if there are new updates. For maybe 6 months now, theres this “zero downtime architecture” that they’re saying. Anyone knows if its truly effective?
Not that i plan to go back to philhosting, but its somewhat gonne be a relief to know that their service has improved? Or hasnt it?
Hi! I was surfing and found your blog post… nice! I love your blog.
Cheers! Sandra. R.
I too got scammed with Philhosting. When you call them, their supposed “tech support” just asks you if you’ve made a ticket on what you’re about to inquire. When you say yes, “tech-support” tells you to just wait for a response on your ticket.
If you say no, “tech-support” tells you to do go make your support ticket.
Philhosting sucks bigtime!
Not yet 1 month and I have seen what a lousy company they are. Here’s my story :
http://toastedbrains.info?p=3
Basically, they want me to email 2checkout because on 2checkout’s page, it says I should pay $200, but I should only pay Php200. They said they can’t answer the problem but it is obvious that they made a mistake.
Well, I replied to them and when they messaged me back, they say I can pay again and this time on 2checkout it’s ok. I believe they are just lazy to do their work. Its a good thing the site is just a test site. But I’ll just finish this year and I will change hosting companies - the one I have used before.
The company should really be investigated. It’s a piece of crap.
Shocked to see such rudeness! I’ve published a follow up post on Philhosting, as submitted by one of my readers in Philippine Customer Service.
i think we need to write a letter in makati city hall, para di na sila makapagrenew ng business permit. Mam Jenny Ortuoste-Alcasid, sice writer kayo, sure may mga connections kayo. baka pwede mo paimbestigahan yan philhosting. laki ng perwisyo ginawa nila sa mga tao.

Till now philhosting.net really sucks big time.
It’s the only hosting company that has a hosting support that gets angry when the customer is asking for support.
Were paying for our site then this is what we get. Screw them.
Philhosting earns for a living from us so they better take care of their customers.
