Here’s a view of the Union Church of Manila Sanctuary from the Conference Room at the third level.
The Flags of Nations flank each side of the altar. In front is a wooden cross covered with prayers, which will be burned and the ash used for marking foreheads on Ash Wednesday next year. UCM is, I think, the only church in Manila with a pipe organ.
There are three worship services on Sundays – Contemporary (830am), Traditional (1030am), and Blended (1230pm). On Wednesdays, there is a Communion service at 12 noon. Small Discipleship group meetings are held throughout the week in homes and at church.
Holy Week is very special at UCM, with many activities such as the Agape Meal (sharing of bread, soup, and fruit) and Washing of the Feet service at 6pm on Maundy Thursday; Service of Darkness with the UCM Chancel Choir performing Lucio San Pedro’s “Seven Last Words of Christ” at 630pm on Good Friday; and on Easter, Sunrise Service at 530am at Legaspi Active Park followed by an Easter Family Breakfast at 7am at UCM’s Fellowship Hall. There will also be 830am and 1030am worship services on Easter Sunday.
